General Guidelines

  • This contest is open to bakers of all ages

  • No commercial entries will be accepted

  • Pies must be entered in the name of the person who made it

  • Only one entry per person (pie must be a cherry pie)

  • Each pie must be made from scratch and based in a 9” – 10” pie plate/pan. Each pie must include a cover. You may not use pre-made store-bought crust

  • Whole pie must be submitted

  • No entry can be sold or distributed for consumption after judging due to food safety regulations

  • Donations to the Word of Life Church will be accepted and spectators who wish to take tasting samples may do so at their own risk

Enter A Pie

  • Pre-registration may be competed online

  • Bring your cherry pie to the Cherry Central Registration tent on George Street by the library between 8:30 am and 9 am on Saturday July 20, 2024. At this time, your pie will be issued an entry number, maintaining confidentiality of the bakers

  • Hand in the completed registration form acknowledging that the entered pie becomes the property of the Blenheim Cherry Fest and that you do not get your pie back, and if you win, you give your permission to have your photo taken during the announcement ceremony and have it used for Pie Contest and Festival promotional materials

Judging

  • Judging will start at 9am. Judges will not be present at the registration tent while pies are delivered to ensure confidentiality of the bakers

  • Judging area will be off limits to all but the judges and the pie contest committee members

  • Minimum of 3 judges

  • Criteria – Each cherry pie will be judged on the following, out of a possible 95 points

    • Overall Appearance – points 1-20

    • Crust – Colour, Texture, Doneness, Flavour – points 1-2

    • Filling – Consistency, Doneness, Moisture, Flavour – points 1-20

    • Flavour – points 1-20

    • Creativity – points 1-15

  • Scoring

    • Each judge assigns a numerical value in each criteria category, without consultation with the other judges

    • The pie receiving the highest total numerical value is the winner. The Pie Contest Committee will tally the judging sheets

    • In the case of a tie, the judges will judge those pies again

    • The decision of the judges is final

  • Winners will be announced after the judging is complete
